Guiding an operations manager through complex care-sector disciplinaries

Ongoing HR outsourcing gave a dual-role operations manager the templates, legislation checks and step-by-step process to handle back-to-back disciplinary cases with confidence.

  • North West housing & care group (anonymised)
  • Sector: Care Homes

A single operations manager was carrying HR responsibility across both a housing association and a linked care company. When two complex disciplinary matters landed at once, they needed a specialist adviser to keep both processes lawful, well-documented and defensible.

About the client

A UK housing association operating a linked domiciliary and residential care company, led by a single operations manager covering HR, H&S and compliance across both entities.

The challenge

Two overlapping disciplinary cases in the care arm needed to be handled to CQC-relevant standards while the operations manager was still running day-to-day operations for both organisations. There was no in-house HR to pressure-test the paperwork or timelines.

What we did

A named adviser walked the manager through each stage, covering investigation planning, invite letters, hearing structure, outcome and appeal, checking every step against current employment law. Templates and documentation were supplied promptly so decisions were never delayed waiting on paperwork.

The outcome

Both matters were concluded lawfully with a full audit trail. The operations manager kept operational focus on the housing and care services while the HR risk was contained, and now uses the same adviser as the default first call for people issues.

Having one adviser who knew our sector meant we could move through each stage of the process without second-guessing every letter.
